About your tutor - Phil Coates

I love painting and drawing, have studied and practised them in depth and am still learning about them. I know that people learn best when they are enjoying what they are doing and know where they are going.... I'm good at making that happen, I've been a teacher most of my life. Plus... I like to do a good job and give people value for money.

This is me, mid-ponder about how to do something tricky when I was building our kitchen. Practical bloke. Geordie. Talented enough to have a degree in Biochemistry  and another in Fine Art with a career as an assistant Head Teacher in between. Lucky enough to get an early retirement deal, so able to travel, study and paint ever since. 

 

Some pictures of mine are in the gallery. As you can see, I'm currently giving Trees some serious attention. It seems to me they are always in the background. They get taken for granted. I'm exploring how I can put them in the foreground and express something of their complextiy, beauty and profundity. 

 

Blessed also with a lovely wife and daughter and a house in Desborough. The garden we worked on for the last 15 years is pretty special and open to the public biennially.
